ABOUT ME

A Creative Focus

Photographer + Filmmaker // Nelson, BC

Adrian Wagner

I’ve been working with images for most of my life.

I started with black-and-white film, a Nikon camera and a darkroom in the basement. Nearly three decades later, the tools have changed completely, but much of what draws me to photography hasn’t.

Light. Timing. Composition. And the challenge of recognizing a moment before it disappears.

New York to Nelson

I studied photography in New York City from 1997 to 2001, surrounded by an extraordinary mix of architecture, people, art and street life.

Today I’m based in Nelson, British Columbia.

Living and working in the Kootenays has shifted my visual world considerably. Mountains, weather, changing seasons and strong natural light have become part of how I see, whether I’m photographing an industrial site, a hotel, a wedding or someone standing in the landscape.

My work takes me throughout British Columbia, but Nelson remains home.

Beyond Photography

Photography is one part of a broader creative practice.

For more than 20 years I’ve also worked in web design, branding and digital marketing. That experience has taught me to think beyond the individual photograph—to understand how imagery works within a website, campaign, publication or larger visual identity.

I also have a lifelong background in music and work with film, editing, sound, composition and aerial imagery.

Different mediums, but much the same pursuit: finding the right way to communicate something clearly and make it worth paying attention to.
